And so, in October 1989, Simon Fowler, Steve Cradock, Damon Minchella and Oscar Harrison sat down together, chose their three favourite words, arranged them in a satisfactory order and became Ocean Colour Scene. A year later, they recorded their debut single ‘One Of Those Days’ and within months had a first taste of chart action with a third single ‘Yesterday Today’. Nevertheless, mainstream success would prove to be a trickier proposition. After a clutch of underperforming single releases, their record label, Fontana, dropped the band. There followed a three year hiatus and a difficult period of selfexamination. When the band re emerged, they had reinvented themselves and faced the music industry guns blazing. In February 1996, ‘The Riverboat Song’ smashed into the UK chart and trail blazed six consecutive top ten hits. Backed by the triple platinum selling Moseley Shoals and the number one album Marchin’ Already, Ocean Colour Scene became one of the hottest bands in the country, as the hits kept rolling. Thirtyfive years on, and Ocean Colour Scene are still together making music and regularly selling out huge concert halls across the country. They have the support of an extraordinarily dedicated and loyal fan base who cherish their music and hold close to their hearts a lifetime of memories supporting the group. Yet Ocean Colour Scene have never been popular with the music press. They are frequently overlooked for the key role they played in the nineties music scene. They were, and still are, subjected to derision and scorn. It matters not. Ocean Colour Scene did it their way. Standing firm by their music. They became the people’s band. They believe in the soul of bass, drum and guitar rhythm. They exude melody. And they stand amongst the finest purveyors of the stirring sounds of a live concert. Each of the band has a passion to transcend everyday mundanity with music. And most of all they believe, as they always have, that one song can elevate the spirit and enrich the human experience. This anniversary edition is available on Limited Edition Trans Blue Vinyl, CD as well as Digital and sees the album fully remastered by Denis Blackham Skye Mastering. Featured on each format are bonus tracks ‘Heat Beat’ and a newly unearthed live cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born in the USA’. Continuing our celebration of one of Britain’s finest bands Demon Records are proud to present Yesterday Today 1999 to 2003. This is the next in the ongoing series where we focus on a period from the bands illustrious career and pull together their studio albums in one concise vinyl box. Within this boxset set you’ll find One From The Modern the bands fourth album that at the time represented something of a slight departure from the previous two. A more reflective, soulful and pastoral sound as well as a more political message, albeit with a late60s psychedelic slant, reminiscent of The Byrds, Small Faces or laterperiod Beatles. The band’s fifth album Mechanical Wonder peaked in the UK chart at 7 and lasted four weeks in the top 75. Tracks such as Up On The Downside, If I Gave You My Hear & Mechanical Wonder represent a continuation of the popular Ocean Colour Scene sound. Plus this is the first time this album has been reissued on vinyl since it was first released in 2001. Finishing off the set is North Atlantic Drift, which is also appearing on vinyl for the first time since its initial release. An exceptionally good album that ranks alongside the bands best, featuring tracks I Just Need Myself, Golden Gate Bridge and Second Hand Car.

Red Vinyl Vinyl Records Red Vinyl The Levellers Levellers have announced new acoustic album Together All The Way the follow up to their 2018 Top 20 album We The Collective. The Album will be available on Limited edition Red Vinyl and CD. The last ‘Collective’ album was recorded at Abbey Road with the legendary John Leckie 5 years ago and resulted in their highest chart position in twenty years. Levellers always planned to do more but how do you top that Eventually they came to the conclusion to not try to top it but to go another way.They decided to strip everything right back and go for a more traditional, folk approach. They reconvened the collective this time with Sean Lakeman producing and Al Scott mixing at their own Metway Studios in Brighton. Everything was recorded live, with the musicians playing through the songs until they had versions they were happy with. Of the album and recording, the Levellers say “It was truly a fun record to make, under the rigorous guidance of Sean. Sean’s a musician himself, always bringing ideas and get out of jail free suggestions when we got stuck. It’s a stripped back, raw iteration of the collective with deep folk leanings. As energetic as the first one but definitely different” Levellers were joined again by Hannah and Ollie from the Moulettes on cello, vocals and percussion plus the mighty Dan Donnelly on his first official Levellers recording.First song Down by the River ‘O’ The song was written by friend and collaborator Rev Hammer about the Great Flood of 1968 in Buntingford.
