Formed in 1985, the group rose to prominence as part of the socalled C86 scene a free NME cassette that showcased new bands of the era, with their fastpaced janglepop and intelligent lyrics by founder and only band constant David Gedge.Signing to Island Records, the group at this point Gedge, guitarist Paul Dorrington, bassist Darren Belk and drummer Simon Smith went to Seattle to record with producerengineer Steve Fisk, known then for his work with the fabled SubPop label. As a result, Watusi is both razor sharp and slyly commercial, as typified by its singles, the poptastic Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah and the Monkees’ ramalama of It’s A Gas. There is much to enjoy beyond especially the tender confessional Big Rat and the reflective garden party drama Gazebo. Both underline John Peel’s comment that Gedge had written “some of the best love songs of the rock’n’roll era.”No other Wedding Present album comprises such an eclectic array of material, thoughtfully arranged and consistently strong. The ghostly heartache waltz of ‘Spangle’, the tautly groovy ‘Let Him Have It’, ‘Catwoman’s’ Velvet Underground zoneout, the surf strains of ‘Hot Pants’… all would demand inclusion on a Wedding Present bestof. Most captivating of all was ‘Click Click’, a hypnotic duet of sexual compulsion…The band will be playing all 12 tracks from Watusi on their May 2024 tour, along with a large smattering of their other landmark works.

Originally released on A&M Records in February 1995, Twisted reached No 3 in the UK charts and spawned four Top 40 singles Here And Now, Driving With The Brakes On, Roll To Me & Tell Her This This reissue faithfully replicates the original 1995 A&M UK release with gatefold sleeve, printed inner and poster and is pressed onto high quality 180g vinyl.After the huge, consolidating success of 1992’s Waking Hours, Twisted was a confident return for Del Amitri, now comfortably established as one of the 90s most interesting, exhilarating groups. Although they were very much in another lane, it’s impossible not to hear the subtle influence they had on thethen current Britpop phenomenon with the chiming Start With Me and Never Enough. Elsewhere, first single Here With Me sounds like a great lost track from an early 70s rock album, and Driving With The Brakes On, and It Might As Well Be You underline how adept the group were with a ballad. But for many listeners, it was all about one track. Although peaking in the UK at No 22, Roll To Me hit No 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in America. Twisted entered the charts at No 3 in the UK and remained on the listings for six months.
