Following a break after Kingdom of Rust in 2009, guitarist Jez and drummer Andy gradually found themselves making music together once again and launched their new band Black Rivers.The guys dec&ed to a remote cottage in Anglesey last winter in order to write and record new material. Sharing vocal duties, they boosted their sound with Jez playing bass and keyboards, and Andy contributing piano in addition to their regular instruments. The album is self produced and primarily mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer Johnny Marr, Interpol, Muse, Temples. “Some bands are rooted in the reality of the here and now,” says Jez. “I suppose we’ve always been about escapism searching for something. That’s the link, but I wouldn’t want to think we sound too much like Doves. A neardecade of incessant road time and a nonstop pace of life finally took its toll, with the band stopping only to quickly hammer out “another ten songs” to release as their next record, before ploughing straight back into touring. The pair exhausted themselves to the point of collapse. “We didn’t, at any point, have a breather,” says Steven Ansel drums and vocals, “We probably didn’t see each other for about 1-0 days a year, tops, for six or seven years.” Understandably, such incessant close proximity led to implosion. “We got the to the end of the fourth record and were like, ‘Fk you, I never want to see you again’,”Steven adds, halflaughing, halfsighing.

New Vinyl Records LP Vinyl As Lions As Lions are vocalist Austin Dickinson son of Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson, guitarists Conor O’Keefe and Will Homer, bassist Stefan Whiting, and drummer Dave Fee. They formed in London in late 2014, after Austin, Will and Conor’s previous band, Rise To Remain, split up. They have left behind their RTR metalcore roots, and honed a much more melodic modern rock sound with As Lions. Since signing to Eleven Seven Music’s ‘Better Noise’ label in 2015, the Londonbased band have been busy perfecting their Live performances. They opened up for Five Finger Death Punch at the iconic Wembley Arena in November 2015, and followed that up in 2016 as support to Trivium on their UK Tour, followed by performances at The Great Escape, Camden Rocks and Download Festival. The band released their debut ‘Aftermath’ EP in October 2016, to coincide with their opening slot on a North American tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown & SixxA.M. from midOctober through to December 2016.

I could see he had a dedication and attention to detail that was relentless so the respect I had for him in my mind was magnified in person. We spoke loosely about working together in the future… and it took some time, but after a few years I contacted him and we began to ignite some sparks.”“I would send Mike rough versions of the songs to get his thoughts, then I’d wait impatiently, staring at the clock, until I received his response,” offers Vannier about the process the duo used to create Corpse Flower. “He made my music awaken with his unique perspective and interpretations of my songs. A formidable vocalist, with a sense of humor, Mike and I created a strong, beautiful and sincere collection of music, as well as a friendship.”A variety of musicians, both in Los Angeles and Paris, took part in the recording of Corpse Flower with the Los Angeles team including Smokey Hormel Beck, Johnny Cash, Justin MeldalJohnsen Beck, Air, Nine Inch Nails and James Gadson Beck, Jamie Lidell. The Parisian players are Denys Lable, Bernard Paganotti Magma, Daniel Ci&olini, Didier Malherbe, Leacuteonard Le Cloarec and the Beacutecon Palace String Ensemble. The lyrics for “Ballad C.3.3.” are drawn from Oscar Wilde’s “The Ballad of Reading Gaol” poem, which was initially published using the name C.3.3.
