Phobophobes have a resolutely singular sound, both unnerving and seductive, dark yet playful, where ominous vocals, rickety synths, scuzzy guitars, and a loud and manic rhythm section clash and swirl in what has been described as an “eerie wonderland” Loud & Quiet. Though originally rising from South London’ s gristlerock scene alongside bands such as Shame, Goat Girl and Fat White Family the latter featured Jamie Bardolph Taylor and Chris Olivares Chandler in earlier formations – Phobophobes inhabits is its own idiosyncratic avantgarde world like some bastard child of The Cr&s and Talking Heads. One where postpunk, gothic, artrock and newwave collide forming a gloriously unpredictable backdrop to frontman Jamie Bardolph Taylor’ s sharp and witty lyrics.
