Description
If lsquoSongs of Praisersquo was fuelled by pintsloshing teenage vitriol, then lsquoDrunk Tank Pinkrsquo delved into a different kind of intensity. Wading into uncharted musical waters, emboldened by their wit and earned cynicism, Shame created something with the abandon of a band who had nothing to lose.Having forced their way through their second albumrsquos identity crisis, they arrive, finally, at a place of hardwon maturity. Enter lsquoFood for Wormsrsquo, which frontman Charlie Steen declares to be ldquothe Lamborghini of Shame records.rdquoIt marks a sonic departure from anything theyrsquove done before, abandoning their postpunk beginnings for more eclectic influences, drawing from the tense atmospherics of Merchandise, the sharp yet uncomplicated lyrics of Lou Reed and the more melodic works of 90s German band, Blumfeld. For the first time, the band are not delving inwards, but seeking to capture the world around them. ldquoI donrsquot think you can be in your own head forever, rdquo says Steen. A conversation after one of their gigs with a friend prompted a stray thought that he held onto ldquoItrsquos weird, isnrsquot it Popular music is always about love, heartbreak, or yourself. There isnrsquot much about your mates.rdquo In many ways, the album is an ode to friendship, and a documentation of the dynamic that only five people who have grown up together and grown so close, against all odds can share.Previous record lsquoDrunk Tank Pinkrsquo charted Top 10 in the UK, with worldwide streams across previous records at 62 million.Produced by Flood Foals, Nick Cave, U2 and recorded live for the first time in Assault amp Battery Studio, North West London.Extensive touring across the UK, EU and US announced for 2023, including Brixton Academy in London.Cover art by Marcel Dzama The Museum of Modern Art, New York Guggenheim Museum, New York Tate, London.Available to independent retailers on blue amp yellow coloured vinyl. Also available to independent retailers on blue amp yellow vinyl LP bundled with exclusive bonus 7rdquo featuring the tracks lsquoAdderallrsquo and lsquoSlimborsquo.
