Hot on the heels of her standout debut single lsquoCool Kidrsquo, hotly tipped 17yearold YALA Records signee Cathy Jain has today shared the title track from her highly anticipated forthcoming debut E.P lsquoArtificialrsquoEchoing the modernist pop of Billie Eilish, the production flair of Frank Oceanrsquos more soothing moments, and Lana Del Reyrsquos nostalgia for the recent past lsquoArtificialrsquo is a hazy, sunkissed, RampBtinged altpop track that stands Cathy out as a unique new voice.Cool Kid immediately made an impact at Radio 1 with the track added to their coveted Introducing playlist garnering big onair talk ups from Annie Mac, Clara Amfo and Greg James, while Jack Saunders subsequently named it as his Next Wave pick. Further radio support came from Lauren Laverne and Steve Lamacq at 6music. Whilst glowing writeuprsquos from NME, Clash, and Line Of Best Fit added to the groundswell of support from leading industry tastemakers.Cathy now builds on that flying momentum with the news that her highly anticipated debut E.P lsquoArtificialrsquo will be released on November 5th, showcasing her singular voice, remarkable song craft and bedroom production skills that suggests an artist on the cusp of a major breakthrough.ldquoIn a word my artificial EP is about authenticity.rdquo explains Cathy Jain. ldquoTogether, the four tracks take a look at how we define what is really real when we spend so much of our time either in our own heads or in a virtual world online. With each song on the EP, Ive tried to create a snapshot of a few moments in someones life where they are thinking about this. I think that people especially those my age stress a lot about their image and how their life and feelings match up to what other people expect of them, but these songs have a more lighthearted, observational, and kind of reassuring style. So, in the title track artificial, Im picturing someone who feels like their life lacks authenticity but realises that their imagination and virtual life are all part of what makes up who they are.rdquoCathy Jain was raised in China before relocating to the UK at the age of 13. She not only speaks fluent Chinese, but also plays the traditional instrument the guzheng, which reiterates her diverse talents as a musician, vocalist, producer and songwriter.Produced, mixed and cowritten by Heron Cracked Analogue
