Description

Formed in 1976 in Hamburg, Running Wild were originally influenced by the likes of Judas Priest, Kiss and ACDC but found everlasting fame when they pioneered the entertaining pirate metal subgenre after vocalist guitarist Rolf Kasparek saw Roman Polanskirsquos movie Pirates whilst writing a song called Under Jolly Roger for their 3rd studio album. While the historical lyrics were very superficial at first, the lyrics for later albums were intensively researched, by Rolf Kasparek in particular. In addition to lyrics about pirates like Calico Jack, Klaus Stoumlrtebeker, or the littleknown Henry Jennings, the band also addressed subjects like the Wars of the Roses, the Battle of Waterloo, or the colonization of the New World by the Conquistadors.
