Phobophobes have a resolutely singular sound, both unnerving and seductive, dark yet playful, where ominous vocals, rickety synths, scuzzy guitars, and a loud and manic rhythm section clash and swirl in what has been described as an ldquoeerie wonderlandrdquo Loud amp Quiet.nbspThough originally rising from South Londonrsquos gristlerock scene alongside bands such as Shame, Goat Girl and Fat White Family the latter featured Jamie Bardolph Taylor and Chris Olivares Chandler in earlier formations ndash Phobophobes inhabits is its own idiosyncratic avantgarde world like some bastard child of The Cramps and Talking Heads. One where postpunk, gothic, artrock and newwave collide forming a gloriously unpredictable backdrop to frontman Jamie Bardolph Taylorrsquos sharp and witty lyrics.
