HIFILOFI SCIFIWIFI is the debut solo album from Gale P, best known as the cofounder, guitarist and occasional singer of acousticindie stalwarts Turin Brakes.Born in Tehran, based in Brixton, Gale Paridjanian was raised in the multicultural melting pot of South London in a family home full of musical instruments. He picked up a guitar at a young age and launched himself onto his musical arc.A lockdown break from touring provided the space to explore fresh creative directions, inspirations and collaborations. Gale brought all these into his home studio to stitch together into a compelling set of personal songs ldquoIrsquod go around London looking for inspiration, bring it back to my garden shed and create freely, attempting to turn into sound what Irsquod seen that day a painting, a fight, a story overheard. But sometimes Irsquom just trying to make music I want to hear, like a homemade Shazam playlist.rdquoEverything is tied together by Galesrsquo authentically lofi production, intimate vocals and sultry acoustic guitar, floating across dreamily trashy beats and subtle offbeat electronics.Lead single lsquoThundercloudsrsquo is one of two collaborations with BBC 6 Music regular Eliza Shaddad. Its a tale of quiet evenings evolving into rowdy nights and ending up in full blown arguments. Elizarsquos clear voice soars above a track thatrsquos one part Bon Iver to two parts Velvet Underground. Therersquos fleet fingered guitar picking aplenty on lsquoIn The Rainrsquo, and hushed campfire vibes to lsquoDark Cloudsrsquo, but this isnrsquot a folk album lsquoZombiersquo has the insistent push of 70s LA, lsquoNeed To Knowrsquo drives like a Hall amp Oates radio banger, and lsquoThere She Goesrsquo marries the cool of JJ Cale to the swagger of Britpop. Eliza Shaddad returns to duet with stunning effect on album standout lsquoOfficesrsquo, with echoes of 90s slacker rock building to a shimmering climax.HIFILOFI SCIFIWIFI blends together a mix of honest emotions and influences into a sound thatrsquos genuinely homespun and heartfelt. Gale P LP is available for home delivery from Vinyl Records London, only £19.99
An LP, or long-playing vinyl record, is a classic format cherished by music enthusiasts for its warm, authentic sound. Typically featuring up to 45 minutes of music split between two sides, LPs are the perfect way to enjoy full albums as the artist intended. Their larger format also allows for striking album artwork, making them as much a visual delight as an auditory one.
LPs have become symbols of a deeper connection to music, offering a tactile and immersive experience. From the ritual of placing the needle to the soft crackle as the music begins, playing an LP is a nostalgic journey that transcends digital convenience. Whether you’re collecting vintage classics or exploring modern releases, LPs remain an iconic choice for any music lover.
