Green Onions – 60th Anniversary Translucent Green Heavyweight Vinyl. This Heavyweight Vinyl is in stock. For more check out all the official Booker T & The MG’s merchandise & vinyl available for home delivery with Vinyl Records London, only £32 +P&P One of the most popular instrumental songs ever, ‘Green Onions’ started out as a band jam at a demo recording session for rock’n’roll singer Billy Lee Riley with the famed Stax Records house band. Stax label head Jim Stewart liked what he heard and recorded what would become the basis for the band’ debut album. Christened Booker T. amp The M.G.s, they released ‘Green Onions’ with original members Booker T. Jones organ, piano, Steve Cropper guitar, Lewie Steinberg bass, and Al Jackson Jr. drums in October 1962. The title track became a worldwide hit, covered by dozens of artists including the Blues Brothers, the Ventures, the Shadows, Deep Purple, Mongo Santamaria and Count Basie. The deluxe 60th Anniversary Edition of ‘Green Onions’ releases as a 1LP 180g vinyl in a green translucent colorway similar in hue to the vegetable it celebrates plus a 4page insert, including band photos, Stax Records ephemera and David Ritz’ new liner notes. This Edition also releases as a 1CD deluxe softpack.
Heavyweight vinyl is pressed on thicker, denser material—typically weighing 180 grams or more. This added weight offers improved durability, reduced warping, and is often believed to provide better sound quality due to more stable playback. Many audiophile releases, reissues, and deluxe editions are pressed on heavyweight vinyl, making it a popular choice among collectors and music enthusiasts who value both performance and longevity. While it doesn’t automatically guarantee superior audio, its solid, premium feel and association with high-quality production standards have made it a trusted format for serious vinyl fans.
Vinyl records are a timeless format that continues to captivate music lovers with their warm, analogue sound. Unlike digital formats, vinyl offers a rich, textured listening experience that many argue feels more authentic and immersive. With their larger artwork and tangible presence, records bring a sense of nostalgia and artistry to any music collection.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or new to the world of vinyl, records have a unique ability to connect listeners to music on a deeper level. Their physical grooves and the ritual of placing a needle on a spinning disc create a tactile and engaging experience. From classic albums to modern releases, vinyl remains a cherished way to enjoy music.
