The record was produced by Murray Krugman and Sandy Pearlman. On May 12, 1973, the album peaked at number 122 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was recorded at the Columbia Studios in New York City in late 1972.The song 34Baby Ice Dog34 features lyrics by singerpoet Patti Smith who was keyboardist Allen Lanier039s girlfriend at the time, who would make several lyrical contributions to the band039s repertoire during its career.The song 34The Red and the Black34, with lyrics referencing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, is a renamed, rerecorded version of 34I039m on the Lamb but I Ain039t No Sheep34 from the debut album of the same name.
