The introspective I Am I Be showed De LaSoul at their most selfreferential to date. Long Island Wildin was a collaborationwith Japanese hip hop artistsKanTakagiMajorForce and trioSchaDaraParrSDP. The albums first single, Breakadawn, used a sample of MichaelJacksons I Cant Help It and Smokey Robinsons Quiet Storm.De La Soulcollaborated for the first time withGangStarrsGuruon Patti Dooke, and femaleMC Shortie No Mas who was prominent on many tracks on the album andshowcased particularly on In The Woods. The album ended with an old schoolBiz Markie collaboration called Stone Age. The album was a critical success withRolling Stone listing it as one of the best hip hop albums of all time.
